DJ Krush @ Biltmore
The pioneer of Japanese Hip-Hop enthrals with an enthusiastic set.
Not having been to the Biltmore Cabaret before I was pleasantly surprised with the plush seating, dark mysterious atmosphere and the reasonably priced drinks. Arriving about 10pm I caught the end of the first set, a vocal hip-hop influenced groove that had a few people careening round the dance floor.
After a quick break the second set began. A dark, moody and meaty blend that was great to relax into and start to unravel to the beat. The floor began to fill as more and more partiers felt the electronic swell start to take hold.
In the ensuing break a few tracks from “Endtroducing...” by DJ Shadow taunted us, built the tension and had all our hands reaching for the ceiling. As the last dying chords of Organ Donor resonated DJ Krush turned the night on, reached out and took us all on a journey.
A few tracks into Krush’s deft, sublime and genre defying set we all found our rhythm and pounded through heart pumping highs and arms up, gyrated through the laid back mixes. Sweat slicked, jubilant, our senses stirred, we flowed and whirled around the floor shouting un-needed encouragement. An outrageously good remix of DJ Shadow poured over us, slowly waxing to its peak through the perfect timing and expert mixing of DJ Krush.
As the night drew to a close everyone looked exultant and I was in absolute agreement, an amazing night and an amazing set from Japan’s finest DJ.
